The Magic

Our candles are charged with magic both during the making process and once the candle is finished. They are not charged with an intention or purpose- that is for you to decide. But, even alone, they radiate energy that feels both powerful and comforting. Many witches have stopped by my table to let me know this and I’m very proud of the time and magic spent on each one.

How To Use

Fatness is magical and protective. We move through this world and take up space. We reclaim the word ‘fat’, and these candles are here to help you in whatever way you may need. Use to replace any poppet in a magical working. Poppets can represent you or someone else. Types of spells are things like healing, confidence, protection against fatphobia, luck at an important doctor’s visit or job interview, cord cuttings, divination, and more. Our bodies effect every thing we do and every way that we move through the world.

This candle is a beautiful blend of plant waxes: Creamy Coconut, Sweet Soy, and Fruity Apricot. Our recipes may also contain candelilla, caranuba, or sunflower waxes. Currently it comes in it’s natural state, with no added fragrances or dyes.

This is the well known fat candle version that you’ve seen everywhere. It’s beautiful and round, and just all around such a great candle for spell working and reminding yourself that you deserve representation

Do not leave any candle unattended, especially around pets. Body candles are not evenly weighted or shaped and, therefore, don’t generally have wax that stays contained. Any dried plant material can potentially ignite. Though we’ve done many burn tests, fire is powerful, and should be respected as such.

Our spell candles will always come in an unscented, dye free version in order to make it as accessible to as many people with sensitivities as possible and also so that you have the ability to dress and add to your candle in any way you’d like! Each candle comes with a Big Moon Magic: Fat Spells for taking up space preview spell for self love and self kindness.

Our all natural, plant based candles are free of Parabens, Pthalates, Synthetic Fragrances, Lead, and harmful ingredients. Not only that, but the SPCA has listed Paraffin, a common type of wax used in most commercial candles which is made from petroleum, as being always toxic to pets. We never use paraffin or palm wax in any of our products. Made with a hand blended formula of soy wax and coconut wax, we’ve chosen to exclude paraffin wax and palm wax entirely. (Wanna Know Why?)

About us: Big moon is the passion of Mara and Clara and comes from many years of fat liberation activism. Together we carry the labels: Transgendered, Woman, Nonbinary, Queer, Fat, Disabled, Neurodivergent, and trying our best!

Clara (she/her) taught herself how to code starting at age 13 and decided to make a career out of it when our son (he/she/them) was born. Mara (they/them) dreamed of being an artist, but was hit with chronic illnesses, one right after the other, including two bouts of long covid, a genetic connective tissue disorder, and multiple autoimmune illnesses. They never thought they’d be able to have any kind of career- until Big Moon became a fully fleshed out idea. Their goal now is to work with marginalized communities to provide the best and most inclusive occult shop possible.
